OSS 2.1.1 Auto refresh is not working properly

Open darinfisher opened this issue 3 years ago • 6 comments

Auto refresh stops refreshing seemingly randomly. Auto refresh is not sticky, has to be set each time. The auto refresh service does not allow indefinite without any activity timeout.

Steps to reproduce: List the minimal actions needed to reproduce the behavior.

  1. Select "Enable Auto Refresh" from a dashboard
  2. Turn on "Indefinite"
  3. Set inactivity timeout for a time at least 24 hours. Almost anytime setting does the same thing.
  4. Walk away for a while, usually at least 10 minutes
  5. Return and auto refresh has turned off

Expected behavior: Refresh to continue indefinitely

Steps to reproduce: Indefinite setting with long inactivity timeout fails.

  1. Select "Enable Auto Refresh" from a dashboard
  2. Turn on "Indefinite"
  3. Set inactivity to 29 days
  4. Select confirm
  5. Immediately the reset dialog will appear Your dashboard auto refresh settings have been reset due to inactivity

Expected behavior: Refresh unless there is 29 days of inactivity.

Actual behavior: Stops refreshing

Sometimes when returning to a board the refresh will show "Refreshing Every undefined" image

Indefinite setting with long inactivity timeout fails - both OSS and Cloud 2

darinfisher avatar Feb 18 '22 16:02 darinfisher

For Cloud 2, the dialog does not change but the cells are not refreshing. This looks like similar issue. https://github.com/influxdata/influxdb/issues/21447

As of version 2.3.0 these problems still exist and make the product unusable for regular dashboard visualizations. Does not consistently save the refresh configurations. Does not consistently refresh at the configured intervals. Logs user out (timeout session) at irregular intervals.

This is much worse that before. Now it logs me out every 20 - 30 minutes. Downgrading failed and corrupted all of my data.

4th attempt for the downgrade succeeded and am now running 2.0.9 again.

I am running v2.5.1 and this is still a problem, is there a reason for the wontfix label?

the refresh stops randomly and still indicates "refreshing every #" on the button. Does not matter what I select for refresh intervals or timeouts. I will have to esc presentation mode, click the button twice to then set refresh again, and then go back into presentation mode

worst of all is I have no idea it has not been refreshing as it does not show last refresh time anywhere and the times in the graphs is not obvious it didn't refresh unless you really look

@kristinarobinson Why is this tagged with 'wontfix'? It is stopping my from upgrading and limiting my uses.

The best solution my team has found to resolve this issue is to use Grafana. The all-in-one DB and visualization capability was very nice, but no one wants to display a bunch of frozen dashboards or task someone to go manually interact with them every hour.

disappointing, I was really looking for a simple time series+graphing server that uses the least resources possible. I do like Grafana and will have to go back to that, but the only reason I choose influxdb was to avoid having to run multiple systems/servers/software just to store and graph some data
