Git LFS releases don't include full files.

e.g. Working as expected: https://zenodo.org/record/5944738

Not working as expected: https://zenodo.org/record/5989727

Notes

We have to see if this is a change on GitHub's side:

  • did they stop including LFS files in ZIPballs in general?
  • do they have some total file size threshold which if exceeded does not include LFS files?

Any news on this? I had the same issue on https://zenodo.org/record/7648910, and in addition got a GitHub mail that we exceeded the limit on LFS (2,19 of 1 GB for the free tier). Just mentioning this as additional caveat.

Just stumbled across this thread. For me, it worked after changing the GitHub Repo settings, such that downloaded archives contain the LFS files.
