No really an issue but more like a question
I stumbled across the SmartTube project in the March edition of the Linux magazine. I installed SmartTube on our Sony Bravia KD-50X85J TV via adb and it worked the first time without issue. Its really easy to update to the latest beta version too. All from a Ubuntu Server.
What an awesome app! It absolutely runs circles around the Google YouTube app.
My question is in regards to the Sony TV remote control which has a dedicated YouTube button on it. Is it possible to redirect this button to launch SmartTube?
I read in the voice search section on github that there is a ATV Bridge SmartTube app.
Voice Search https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube#voice-search
Once the Google YouTube app is removed and the ATV Bridge SmartTube app is installed would the remote control YouTube button work with SmartTube or is the app just for voice commands only?
You could try tvQuickActions (free, pro), but I'm not sure if Bravia's remote is supported. It works for a Mi Stick remote for me.
Just download the "button mapper" app from playstore. Works fine on my Sony Tv
I installed button mapper onto our Sony Bravia TV via adb, remapped the YouTube button to the SmartTube app and it worked! Thank you Haris1977, you nailed it!
@rsauve just keep in mind that button mapper must run on the background otherwise it wont work ;)
Yes, the Button Mapper app is running in the background and working well.
I did have a minor issue with the Google YouTube app interfering when backing out and exiting from SmartTube. The Google YouTube app would appear on exit. I contacted Button Mapper support and they suggested to enable the Alternate button handling feature: Button Mapper --> Troubleshooting --> "Alternate button handling"
That took care of the problem, no more Google YouTube app appearing after SmartTube exit.
