Feature request: Hide specific items - Layers, Sub-layers

Open kiolalis opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

  1. As far as I know, I can hide a layer, but I can't hide specific items (markers, polylines, polygones) inside a layer. Is it possible this attribute to be added?
  2. It is very useful to classify items into layers, but sometimes it is more useful to have the option to make more classifications in sub-layers. For example, in order to depict the villages of a big administrative territory I need: a) to seperate the whole territory into sub-administrative areas and b) to classify villages into these sub-administrative areas. Like the process to classify items into groups, then sub-groups, etc. Is it possible to do that job in the present uMap? Is it possible this attribute to be added?

I was going to make a new issue with this text:

Loving the layer feature, making it easy to choose what to show or not show on the map. What would make this even better is if you could have groups of layers, or layers with sub-layers, so that you could turn on and of more than one (sub-)layer at a time.

But then I found this issue, and it seems to be the same? Am I understanding you correctly? Thanks! :)

I think yes, we talk about the same issues.

One option could be to have a "group" field in the layer properties, and when defined we group layers according to this value.

Eg. without group:

- bakery
- butcher
- theatre
- …

Eg. without group:

Shops:
- bakery
- butcher
Culture:
- theatre
- …

And one could then show/hide one group at a time.

I asked in matrix room whether there's plan to support layer groups and was pointed to this issue.

Here's my use case:

I would like to be able turn visibility on/off for multiple layers at once e.g. create group recycling and underneath have a layer for plastic another layer for scrap metal etc and by toggling recycling group either all or none are displayed. Still one can finetune by toggling layers in the group itself.
