A follow up thought occurs. We could optionally show a touch-based animation whenever an edge-swipe is detected. Hopefully more obvious to the user the reason an app isn't seeing that...
I've not tested this enough so I'll have to do this later today. While having no compositor *should* be okay, this feature was not tested adequately on xshape backing.
Picom would be one way to fix it. I've got a proof of concept fix for modes without compositing currently
