Bug description

Most work great, but when sending certain ones the audio gets messed up (slowed down a lot, not even comparable to original video sometimes). The videos work fine on my phone of course. To fix it, I make minor edit to video and save as, make sure format is h.264 and then its normal when sent.

Note: so far it's only happened to files obtained via the insta downloader, but I use it a lot and 95% of the videos are fine when sent. And just to be clear the videos that get messed up when sending work perfectly fine on my phone, I imagine something happens during processing when it happens.

Steps to reproduce

  • go to https://fastdl.app/ (instagram dowloader)
  • paste the link https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cu4Wh6JOPhw/ or https://www.instagram.com/reel/CuijJEOI4Em/
  • go to Download mp4. (hit save when prompted)
  • open file and confirm it sounds normal
  • send the file to someone and play it from the chat
  • note how the audio sounds demonic lol

Actual result: audio is messed up when video is played Expected result: audio sounds normal when video is played

(Note: I send it to a contact and then resent edited video when I noticed it was messed up, but I sent file to myself (Note to self chat) before getting bug report)

Thank you

Sorry I didn't realize I can attach the video. Here is one so you dont have to use the downloader. Try to send it to yourself and see..

Same issue

Hi @V-Rixxo, would you mind ensuring you're on the latest version of Signal? If the problem persists, please upload a debuglog so I can take a closer look.

And, by chance, did you download the problematic video from Instagram?

Even with the latest version of Signal?

@nicholas-signal
Even still today, and yes with the newest version of Signal

Would you be able to upload a debug log and post the URL here? It'll help me diagnose whether your phone is correctly (or incorrectly) remuxing the audio track of the video.

Sorry about my lack of response, I am now able to post videos downloaded from Instagram. It is now videos that are saved from long ago that don't work.

I don't know if redownloading old videos is going to reproduce the issue, do you still want this?

do you still want this?

A debug log from after you send one of the videos saved from long ago will still be helpful, thanks!

Same here. Even worse, some videos make my phone freeze pretty much completely (only a lockscreen clock works. Not even charging. I'm unable to unlock the phone and have to use ~emergency key combination to forcibly power it off. Once the phone locks itself up after an attempt to send, say, 30 MB video, it remains locked for over an hour (I checked once).
