Could you please explain a little bit why this PR is needed? The current code works with Bash 3 on macOS.

No, you're doing it wrong. Try `cmd="env LANG=C git` and run `$cmd`. It definitely works unless your `$PATH` is screwed.

What version of git are you using? There's a PR #6 but I couldn't reproduce it. Maybe because my git is too new?

It would be more interesting to implement multi-user on single port. However I don't plan to add such feature. Pull requests are welcome.
