Actually, fish is what I use myself ;) However, fish already has some of the benefits that Final Term is going to bring to other shells built in. As such, bash is going to remain default, while other shells, including fish, might be supported at some point in the future.

I would also like fish shell integration. Just thought I would put my two cents in. Since fish already has a lot of this functionality would it not be easier to make everything work correctly in fish first and then port to other shells?

I think @p-e-w approach is correct one. I know fish, zsh, or others, are having benefits in various terms. But at the moment, most interactive terminal emulators are using bash and to stay with development of FinalTerm sane (aka. deterministic) Bash 'only' for the 'beginning' is a reasonable decision. I guess this will somehow change when there is a stable release and someone is willing to put his/her efforts in integrating more features. :) (You could mention that in the README.md, so people get a better understanding of what's happening) :)
