@mybb/developers I think reporting can wait until Alpha 2. Happy to be challenged on that.
If you want to include basic forum functionalities in Alpha 1, reporting is definitely one of them IMO. At least reporting posts/topics. Profiles and possibly other stuff could wait until Alpha 2.

Well, feel free to name any widely used forum script without the report functionality. Even the most plain/limited scripts like Vanilla or Discourse (which I still wouldn't call widely used) have flagging, which is basically renamed reporting (while we're at it - I'd still prefer to just call it "reporting", it's clearer for less technical users IMO). It's simply important for admins to have a quick way to remove abusive content from their forums, where users can cooperate without getting any additional moderation rights. Going through every post every day is not an option if staff is busy, PMing several admins isn't efficient either.
@Destroy666x we're talking about Alpha 1, not leaving reporting out completely. No one should be running Alpha 1 in production.

I'm commenting accordingly to this thread: http://community.mybb.com/thread-175910.html and comments made under other issues. Reporting is a basic forum feature that "will require significant refinement based on community feedback".
I agree that the ability to report content is a core feature, but we shouldn't let it get in the way of Alpha 1. If we can have a clear set of expected features and functionality to show the community what we want to achieve, that should be enough until Alpha 2 I reckon.
There needs to be a clear set with some kind of explantations, yes. Because I can't see why a task system: https://github.com/mybb/mybb2/issues/12 (there is nearly nothing to schedule yet) or signatures: https://github.com/mybb/mybb2/issues/43 (which were considered to be skipped entirely at the cost of profile fields at some point) would be better to show off in Alpha 1 than reporting.
They shouldn't be, and both should also be postponed. Just because they're currently stamped Alpha 1, that doesn't mean they're to be finished then. It's more likely that none of us have had a chance to change its label. Feel free to comment on them and change the label though.
All issues in Alpha 1 are those that aren't but should be are up for debate until we do our feature freeze for Alpha 1.
