Further tests with https://github.com/mmd-osm/openstreetmap-cgimap/tree/feature/stream_to have shown no significant improvement. We'll keep the issue open for the time being, but likely won't use this approach.

OAuth 1.0a / Basic auth retirement is now scheduled for July 1st [link](https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/oauth-1-0a-and-http-basic-auth-shutdown/108490/31). That means backporting will no longer be a concern in the near future.
