Same issue with vscode + python debugger.

Opening the "debug console" window and trying to enter a variable sometimes results in this bug. The console window is completely empty in that case. The result of your expression either appears for a split second only - or sometimes becomes visible once you increase the vertical height of the debug console window -> it seems the bottom of the output appears higher than the top of the debug window.

I too am experiencing this issue. At the same time it began, autocomplete stopped working as reported in #241402. I was hopeful both were resolved with #239900 but they were not. (I never experienced the unresponsive console described in that issue.)

Same Issue with 1.97.2 on Ubuntu 20 Downgraded to 1.96.0 - and debug console working fine.

This issue was raised here also - https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/241402 but it was closed from some reason 🤷
