Since @rsudekum already put up a blog post about this, perhaps you could include a simple example of labels on top of a thematic/dynamic layer using Leaflet's tile pane capabilities.

I will merrily fork&pull if this will serve as the example, though I'd prefer to use watermarked mapbox tilesets.

Hm, I'd rather not have examples that use private Leaflet APIs, since they aren't versioned or advised for public use. /cc @mourner - could there be a public api for this?

Any word on the fate of map._createPane()?
