is AbstractFilesystemResolver used for anything?

Looking at the code, i realize that AbstractFilesystemResolver is an abstract class that is not extended anywhere in the bundle, and is also not documented as an extension point. the only mention is in the changelog for version 1 where it claims that the class has been removed.

is there any need to keep it for version 3 or can we remove it?
