Have you tried to do what it says on the screen?

@eightam it's a known issue. We can't put widevinecdm into the repository because of the licensing issues but will see if we can put it in while building the app and not distribute it alongside the code.

How about using this as an electron replacement? https://github.com/castlabs/electron-releases

How do I install WidevineCdm with the current version 0.5.1 of Pennywise? chrome://components won't open in Pennywise.

That error message is intended for chrome users, you can use it to find your local lib file. More info for electron can be found here: https://electronjs.org/docs/tutorial/testing-widevine-cdm

widevine cdm no longer works on unsigned apps.

Hm... I was hoping that Pennywise could be the solution for me to play Netflix in a floating window under macOS. Other solutions like Fluid Browser don't work for me since they use the Safari rendering engine which - in conjunction with my second monitor which doesn't support some HDCP requirements - also refuses to play Netflix because of DRM issues. Well, DRM sucks 😡

I can go ahead and contact google about it and try and get the right info

Go ahead but be prepared to wait months for an answer 😉

I know lol all the tech Google has why isn't there a page for it like there is for the map APIs

The-Code-Monkey avatar Nov 06 '18 09:11 The-Code-Monkey

Close this as this is something I don't think can be done for a long time. Or at all

Any update with this?

poiromaniax avatar Aug 14 '19 11:08 poiromaniax

Not sure if this helps, but I had the same error code. Found the WidevineCdm component, it refused to update. Checked my AdBlock Chrome extension and even though there was nothing to block, I disabled it anyway on all Netflix pages. Reload and boom, no error code anymore.

@elkm-crypto did you install (and later uninstall) the AdBlock Chrome Extension inside of pennywise
