Are you taking snapshots on the target locally, eg by running sanoid on the target with a `production` template / with `take_snapshots` enabled? If so, you're most likely creating snapshots...
Issues with `zpool upgrade` are upstream; nothing we can do about it here. I'm not sure if the issue in the first has been addressed yet; @phreaker0 ?
Not sure. Shouldn't be hard to patch your local copy to omit the -q and find out if it still works. If it's really not necessary, we can change it...

I would accept a cleanly implemented mbuffer or nc transport patch. But it needs to be clean, maintainable, and the invocation needs to make it very clear that you're foregoing...
