MDTF seems to do some useful things with CMIP6 metadata Not sure how useful they are for this package but it seems worth looking through it.

Oh this seems neat. From a quick view it seems this would be really useful for clean output, but I'll check it out in more detail tomorrow (phone app is still a bit crummy).
