Spears
Another idea I liked from my kids:
A spear is a thing that you throw, like a grenade. Except instead of affecting everyone in the room, it affects one random person.
And: spears can double function as a melee weapon
Oh, that would be cool!
Maybe this is overcomplicated, but what if it went like this:
You throw the spear at somebody. Everybody in the room then gets sorted in random order after that person. That is treated as an attack with a ranged weapon, and that person has a chance to defend (or a dodge reaction is automatically generated for them).
If they defend successfully, the attack moves on to the next person in the order.
Hmm... maybe totally random would be better. What do you think?
Wouldn't a spear normally fly straight? A spear could work as a melee or ranged weapon normally, but if it was secretly a cursed spear then it would fly unpredictably.
I was imagining a magic spear that doesn't fly straight, or bounces off walls

Maybe instead of a spear, there could be a Ball of Destruction - a bouncy ball made from the flesh of a Jumping Bomb that bounces around the room until it hits somebody...?
I do like the idea of something that can be used as both a melee weapon and a projectile (and potentially a reusable projectile, if you can risk using your turn to pick it up again during combat, or waiting until the end of combat.) But there would have to be a payoff for the uncertainty - more damage? Additional side effects? Causes them to miss a turn?
I think we might have enough ideas for two separate items here...
Maybe you could throw the weapon as a reaction?
