Allow users to start a private discussion from a comment thread or from a post.

Nice idea. But should be a optional feature in the Module settings. Maybe default on.

"private discssion" as in sending messages via the mail module?

Have you tried the popover module from the marketplace? There is a button "send message" when hovering over a username. Is that a different solution from what you envision?

Users can start a private message discussion inside portal based on some post or comment on the post.

@miteshprmr34 When using the popover-vcard + mail extension you can send a message from the popover you can see when hovering over usernames.

@dantefromhell We want to start a conversation with post or comment as pre-filled subject line and also can choose participants for that conversation. We are not looking to start a conversation with any particular user.
