First of all, thanks for great work on this project folks!

I've wanted to propose adding a couple more flags if you'll be up to it. The first set is based on

Red and black flag (🏴 • VS16 • ZWJ • :a: • VS16)

There's a whole bunch of other “x-and-black” flags that are worth adding in my opinion:

Yellow and black flag (🏴 • VS16 • ZWJ • :snake: • VS16)

Green and black flag (🏴 • VS16 • ZWJ • :leaves: : • VS16)

Blue and black flag (🏴 • VS16 • ZWJ • :robot: • VS16)

Each is used in various other anarchist groups (anarcho-capitalism, -primitivism, and -transhumanism, respectively).

My second proposal is related to the flag of Belarus. The flag this is based on is the official flag of Lukashenka's regime, and it is probably required for Unicode compliance to leave it as is:

There's another white-red-white flag, that has been used a lot during 2020–21 Belarusian protests and is generally viewed as a symbol of freedom for Belarus citizens:

The flags here are actual SVGs. I can draft a PR sometime next week if everything looks good :-)

🏝 OpenMoji is on hold over summer (project maintainers are out of office until Oct 2021).

Another idea: Sergey Chikin has published free icons for some Russian cities which might be a good basis for some subdivision flags (see also: ISO 3166-2:RU).

How about using ◪ for the sequences that represent a diagonal split?
