I don't think this is a good idea. There are so many edge cases which require plugins to implement resolution behavior that it would effectively not provide any advantage and...
Does this have any side-effects, like resetting some settings that people have already set? Thinking audio levels, etc. I don't know what it's used for beyond what you wrote.
