The base of this discussion is making the `--no-lock` flag available for backup, which already exists as code (from you). It's also what we are currently using to backup everything....

@parkerp1 we are still using a small patch on top of restic https://github.com/mgit-at/restic/tree/backup-nolock to backup a few hundred TB of data. Works like a charm. Sadly it was rejected upstream...
