Feature request: copy bookmark URL
I'd love to see a way to copy a bookmark URL via keyboard only. Two possible implementations I'm thinking of:
- Highlighting a bookmark and hitting Cmnd / Control + C copies the bookmark URL and closes the popup window
- Adding a 'Copy URL' option in the pull-down menus of the 'Control' section of the Popup my Bookmarks options
Note: right-clicking on a bookmark brings up a context menu with a 'Copy' option. Selecting this option doesn't appear to do anything, and the context menu does not appear to be accessible via the keyboard.
you can copy via keyboard only by using context menu (macos Control key, windows/linux Menu key) -> Edit (navigate by arrow key or tab) -> tab & ctrl-c to copy url as of adding it as a new menu item, I prefer keep the menu simple. I don't see much use case of copying a bookmark url to most of the users, maybe u can try to convince me?
Would love to try to convince you! Here is my specific use case:
- I work on 10 projects at the same time. Each project has many related Google Docs, Sheets and Slides that I'm constantly re-opening (designs, legal docs, project management trackers, documentation, marketing materials, etc.)
- To speed up my workflows I bookmark each of the URLs above, along with literally hundreds of other useful links that I use each week. PMB is amazing because it lets me open my URLs super quickly using my keyboard only:
- trigger the extension using the shortcut
CTRL+SHIFT+L - enter some of the bookmark name
- hit enter
- trigger the extension using the shortcut
- While opening bookmarked URLs is the primary use case, I also need to share URLs via emails on a regular basis ("please see the design doc at this link:..."). This takes quite a few more steps:
- trigger the extension using the shortcut
CTRL+SHIFT+L - enter some of the bookmark name
- hit enter
- hit
CTRL+Lto highlight the address bar - hit
CTRL+Xto cut into my clipboard - hit
CTRL+Wto close the new tab
- trigger the extension using the shortcut
I'd love to see a new modifier in PMB setting that would allow Ctrl / CMD + Left Click to copy the URL to the clipboard and close the PMB window. This would save me the final three steps described above, speeding up my workflows even more!!
Apologies for long explanation. As always I'm happy to help with other details, testing, etc. And thank you so much for building and continuing to invest in PMB!
One side note: I'd rather follow the flow I described above than use keyboard shortcuts to open the context menu and then arrow down to Copy. However I tested this, and selecting Copy from the context menu did not seem to do anything for me (the clipboard did not change). I am on Windows, and happy to share more about my exact setup.
Love the new PMB 6.0!
This is a more minor but still useful feature for me. Especially now that PMB is never opening the wrong bookmark, I'd love to be able to just copy the URL of my bookmark instead of opening my bookmark, copying the URL, and closing the tab.
Would love to see it if you happen to have time and interest! 😄
Sorry to bump this -- I just came up with a new ideal for this feature request so I wanted to share 😇
In the second comment you mentioned that you'd like to keep the menu simple (good idea!). What about a simple solution of making CTRL + C work? The steps would be:
- Start PmB
- Search for a bookmark
- Scroll to the desired bookmark
- Hit
CTRL+C
If the following steps copied the bookmark URL that would be amazing! It would add a really nice little feature without any new UI and hopefully the coding would be simple.
I would be soooo happy if this was possible. Now that PmB 6.1.0 is so amazing this is the number one request I have! Please let me know if I can help in any way to make this possible!!
Thank you as always for making such an amazing tool!!
Convinced that this feature is useful but it is a large feature and it WILL take time, I will explain:
CTRL + C doesn't work here because CTRL + C means Copy in user perspective, which would mean copying the bookmark, not just the url. So I think the best way to implement it is to create a new item in menu.
As I mentioned before, I concerned that the menu will grow larger and larger because
- it is easy to add new feature, but dead hard to remove one
- the popup size for chrome restricted that I have to prevent the menu to exceed 600px (or user will have to scroll!)
- too many options will confuse users and take more time to find what they want!
I am not sure copying bookmark url is what everyone will do frequently (at least I don't). So I think it is better to treat it as optional menu item first. "Optional menu items" is a new feature and takes time coz it is a new logic
