Find a better name

Proton is like the first thing everyone thinks of when they try to name a atom extension. Need something more creative :)

(Most of the stuff in this list just comes from random words from wikipedia)

  • etom (emacs atom)
  • spacetom (spacemacs atom)
  • helium / proton / neutron / {{something else atom related}}
  • quantum-mode
  • exotic-mode
  • ???

Like spaceatom or may be spatom

spacebar-mode

nosami avatar Nov 28 '15 01:11 nosami

I like spacebar-mode but it's a bit too long. Maybe space-mode could do

space-ship

t9md avatar Dec 17 '15 06:12 t9md

atom-spaceship is also pretty cool

I think something which implies a relation to spacemacs, like space-atom, would help with gaining traction. A name like this gives a quick impression of what proton seeks to do to anyone who has heard of spacemacs. It also makes it more likely that someone familiar with spacemacs might find it from some quick searching.

I think spaceatom is good, the combination of spaceemacs and atom , every one who like spacemacs and also want to try atom will like this.

I wanted to say thanks for leading the charge! I'm afraid I've found SPC + mnemonics near impossible to live without :open_mouth: dang you Spacemacs!

On topic, quotes from Carl Sagan might provide relevant food for inspiration.

I like the simplicity of spaceatom.

jessejanderson avatar Feb 10 '16 06:02 jessejanderson

I vote spaceatom!

robbyoconnor avatar Feb 15 '16 11:02 robbyoconnor

spaceatom :+1:

Spaceatom organization is available.

@dvcrn, could you start it up and perhaps a bounty source salt? I donate to neovim and spacemacs and it'd be great to give to this project.

Then a team would be great too. Seems like there are quite a few contributors here that are already heavily involved :)

danpolanco avatar Feb 16 '16 20:02 danpolanco

Gonna register the organization but I honestly don't think it will be necessary anytime soon. I don't see what benefits it could give us with a 1-repo project. Contributors can also get managed on normal repositories without problems 😊

I'll look into bounty source salt!

dvcrn avatar Feb 17 '16 05:02 dvcrn

Sounds good :D Visibility is the biggest thing to me. Plus, I'm using Spaceatom all the time now and I'm hoping more people will join and more stuff will spring up :beers:

How about spaceajom :p It mixes in that we are rocking cljs under the hood

dvcrn avatar Feb 17 '16 12:02 dvcrn

just keep it simple and name it space-mode

wwwdata avatar Feb 17 '16 13:02 wwwdata

space-a-jom (jom pronounced like bomb)?

Edit: This is a question ^_^ not a suggestion. How is it pronounced?

danpolanco avatar Feb 18 '16 02:02 danpolanco

Btw, spacebohr?

danpolanco avatar Feb 18 '16 02:02 danpolanco

+1 for spaceajom On 02/17/2016 09:06 PM, Daniel L. Polanco wrote:

-1 for spaceajom

jessejanderson avatar Feb 18 '16 03:02 jessejanderson

Gonna advocate for Spacebohr since I've had some time to mull it over.

Rolls off the tongue easier than Spaceatom, IMO. Easier to read since "ea" looks like it should have a dash, as in space-atom. It's almost a homophone for spacebar. Flying pigs in space? C'mon. Bohr is for Neils Bohr, "who made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory".

I'm still ok with spaceatom though :) Not a big fan of spaceajom.

How about Quantom? (Quantum + Atom)

richarddewit avatar Mar 13 '16 00:03 richarddewit

Or what about Vacuum? Vacuum is the empty SPC between Atoms

richarddewit avatar Mar 25 '16 14:03 richarddewit

I think something simple and succinct will go a long way; something that implies a relation to spacemacs but allows it to develop its own personality. I particularly like "spaceman". It flows, it's familiar, and it lends itself well to the outer-space theme; which could eventually lead the way to a colorscheme and/or logo (à la spacemacs).

jcyamo avatar Mar 29 '16 19:03 jcyamo

@jonyamo - spaceman is too general and has no relation to Atom. Spacemacs even has the word emacs in it.

richarddewit avatar Mar 30 '16 04:03 richarddewit

Perhaps, but then the argument that spacemacs even has the word emacs in it leaves only one logical choice: spaceatom. Any other name would have an implicit relation to atom and therefore would be lost without further explanation. I do like spaceatom, though; plus that could open to community to a collective space editor family: spacemacs, spaceatom, spacevim, spacesublime, spaceintellij, etc.

jcyamo avatar Mar 30 '16 13:03 jcyamo

I like spacetron for spacemacs + electron. But spaceatom is good too.
