Data Collection

Open mluskind opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Motivation

  • In order to work with the interviews in order to extract insights, we need to first store the raw interview data in a way that makes it accessible for people who will be working on the synthesis.

Considerations

  • Should all interviews be recorded?
  • Where and how should we store the videos?
  • How can we make it accessible to the people working on the research?
  • How can we keep the data GDPR compliant?
  • Can we publish an anonymized version of the interviews? And where?

Outcomes

  • A clear, GDPR compliant process, that allows use to store the raw interview data for synthesis.

Including @krook from CNCF staff - can the CNCF help us set up and use an interview and data management tool to best collect data (this issue) and synthesize (#552) our research?

Also, can you help us apply appropriate privacy and legal practices to the raw data and published reports? Thanks!

For those interested in interviewing from their own network:

  1. Notify the PaaP leads via google form with the interviewees name, company name, and role, along with your name and email
  2. Access the Platform Engineer script and Interview Protocol in github. Review Best Practises Guidelines.
  3. Schedule the interview (email must include a GDPR blurb on the purpose of the research and data usage which will be found in the same github repo)
  4. Conduct the interview
  5. Submit the full transcript with interviewer notes (your immediate impressions while they're fresh in your mind) via google form.

For those interested in interviewing from the CNCF network:

  1. Sign-up via google form. Provide level of user interview experience.
  2. Depending on your level of experience, you'll be be the lead or secondary on the your first interview.
  3. You'll be provided with an interviewee.
  4. Schedule the interview (email must include a GDPR blurb on the purpose of the research and data usage which will be found in the same github repo)
  5. Conduct the interview
  6. Submit the full transcript with interviewer notes (your immediate impressions while they're fresh in your mind) via google form.

Open Questions:

  • [ ] Since we're all using our personal emails, can we use a CNCF alias or some other more official and standardized way of communicating with interviewees?
  • [ ] Is using google drive, forms, and sheets GDPR compliant when restricted to a small number of project leads?
