Add option to customize browsing history retention time
Description
Currently, Brave Browser has a maximum retention time of 3 months for browsing history. While this may be sufficient for some users, others may require a longer retention period for various reasons, such as research or personal preference.
It would be helpful if Brave Browser could provide an option to increase or change the maximum retention time for browsing history. This feature would allow users to choose their preferred retention period based on their individual needs.
Proposed Solution:
Add an option in the settings menu to allow users to increase or change the maximum retention time for browsing history. Users could select a retention period ranging from 3 months to a year, or even longer if needed.
Benefits:
- Provides users with more control over their browsing history.
- Allows users to choose a retention period that meets their individual needs.
- Helps users who require a longer retention period for research or personal preference.
- Increases the flexibility and usefulness of Brave Browser.
Thank you for considering this feature request.
I found this issue while searching how to configure the history retention policy in Brave - I must say, I am shocked to learn that this is the default behavior, let alone that there is no option to configure a different behavior. I've been using Firefox for many years, while gradually dabbling in Brave, and I assumed that every browser would simply keep my history forever, unless I deliberately delete it. Only recently did I realize that Brave was quietly deleting my history behind my back, and now I can't find all sorts of pages I know I visited. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a behavior inherited from Chromium, and I appreciate how Brave has already fixed many problems with Chromium. But I don't see any option now except to switch back to Firefox until this is resolved... it is that important. (Is there no extension that can solve the problem?)
Looking more closely at Firefox, I realize it is not actually keeping history forever, but it auto-computes some extremely large number of pages it can keep in history without impacting performance. As a result I have many years of history. The parameter is also configurable if desired.
Thanks again to everyone working on this!
I also want this functionality so hard
Same here. Somebody on the Brave community forum advises the History Trends Unlimited extension (installing). Would be great if this was made a default feature.
Thanks very much for this tip! It might be what I need for now.
Unfortunately the author of the extension calls it "closed source" (no forking allowed)....

Seems to be the last feature really important missing feature in brave
This is a feature which should be unquestionably part of the browser. People like myself need customizable history retention as a sort of archive as I do large amounts of research and often need to go back in time to earlier URLs and searches for reference. This is integral to a browser -- why has this not been addressed?
Definitely needs to be added
+1 here!
bump just to avoid automatic closing of the discussion. We can't be only 8 persons wanting this!!
You are not. I'm the 9th person that think 90 days cap is rubbish and though would like to have this feature enabled. I was using Firefox for the last 15 years and now I'm not able to move this history to Brave on Android. So I would like not only to have Brace keep my history for ever but also to be able to import it somehow through sync.
+1 for this. Cant believe its still not available. Thought brave was better than this.
Definitely +1, such a "cheap" feature to develop, so.. please?
