Do you have a ``matplotlibrc`` file in ``~/.matplotlib``? I wonder if you have the ``bbox_inches='tight'`` option set by default?

@pllim - I noticed @Cadair re-opened it so I think he must intend to work on it soon (just put the labels so it doesn't get closed straight away again)

We need this over at glue-jupyter (https://github.com/glue-viz/glue-jupyter/issues/449), so +1 from me!

This is great! However could we just enable this by default? Sometimes/often regressions might be introduced by unintentional changes.
