Workspaces / Collaborative Work on Collections

Open stonymahony opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. First of all: I love Altair, great work and in my opinion the best GraphQL client out there, thank you very much!

What I miss is an efficient way to work on a collection from multiple devices or as a team.

Describe the solution you'd like One solution would be to be able to create one (or more) workspaces with any number of collections whose local storage path is/can be a folder synchronized with the cloud (NextCloud, Dropbox, you name it).

Describe alternatives you've considered If I don't overlook anything, the only way to do this at the moment is to constantly export and import.

Additional context Such a feature would be THE decisive unique selling point for me, especially compared to Postman or Insomnia.

Hey @stonymahony, thanks for opening this issue. I want to get a better understanding of the best solution for this you would have in mind. Do you have any solutions implemented by some other tools in mind? Would a collaborative workspace for teams be something you or your team would be interested in as a paid feature?

Thanks for your interest!

Do you mean a payment function in the form of an Altair account that can be used to synchronize and share collections with other users, like Postman offers?

I think I would rather not use something like that. I guess that many users like me work primarily alone or in very small teams, so the solution I'm proposing would be sufficient, especially since it doesn't add any costs to the cloud storage that is usually in place anyway. Furthermore, the collections remain with me or the cloud provider "of my trust" and are not spread elsewhere.

Absurdly enough, no other tool I know (Postman, Insomnia, Advanced REST Client) offers the possibility to set the local storage path. I imagine it like this: A workspace contains any number of collections. You can create as many workspaces as you like. For each workspace you can specify a separate local storage path. A workspace is "imported" (loaded) once from local storage and Altair remembers the path - that's it.

How do you think about this?
