webMAN MOD 1.47.31 causing other homebrews to freeze

Open XploitOcelot opened this issue 5 years ago • 12 comments

Hi! I'm on a PS3 Super Slim, 500GB HDD, with 4.86 HFW and PS3HEN 3.0.1. Having this build of WebMAN-MOD installed causes my other two homebrews to freeze when booting (multiman 4.85.1 and pkgi 1.16) and even enabling PS3HEN fails sometimes.

I thought it was because of some problem with my system, but after uninstalling WebMAN-MOD everything got functioning fine.

I wonder how is it that no more people is struggling with this issues…

Try changing fan control to MANUAL 40% (or any other value that you prefer)

That quick-fix worked! Shame that now the console sounds like a space rocket 😆 Are there any possibilities this issue can be fixed in an upcoming release?

EDIT: it seems like the first Auto option is broken, but the other profiles just work neat. I'll stick to the SYSCONF until you can fix that. I just noticed something else. After opening and closing some homebrews, 'My games' disappears from 'Game' at the X menu. Should I open a new issue for that??

That is an issue of HEN that causes a system panic if the memory is on changed when an application is launched. I cannot fix it.

The issue normally happens when the dynamic fan control increases the fan speed due the change in temperature.

Ups. Thank you for the info!!!! And for your amazing work 👍

I think I have the same problem and it emerged after a (supposedly) failed update of webMAN MOD. I don't think I quite understood what it required me to do after updating, so I get I just messed up that part. Now all my homebrews can't load, but also I can't uninstall webMAN-MOD through its otherwise convenient built-in feature neither can I get access to its setup in order to change fan control to manual. I'm stuck. Can I change my fan control settings in any other way?

Fan control can be changed temporarily using http://localhost/cpursx.ps3 The text displayed in that page have links to change the fan mode and speed.

In the General tab of the following page there are various web commands related to fan: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/webman-mod-web-commands.1508/

To reset the settings to the default values, delete /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_config.bin then restart

You can try changing the settings from the PC or smartphone accessing the IP address of your PS3 via http (not https)

So:

  1. Web Browser is not able to open any address (I encountered this issue very often when the PS3 had not yet been hacked), thus preventing me to open webMAN-MOD settings.

Errors are: 8071053d --> if I leave DNS settings as default 80710102 --> if I change DNS to Google's

  1. Unfortunately I can't even have access to /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_config.bin because I have no viable File Manager and FTP refuses to work (I don't know why, I've just updated to 4.87 Ferrox).

  2. http://192.168.1.8/cpursx.html won't open on my Mac (I made sure that's the PS3 IP)

I don't mean to use this thread as personal support, I just reported I am affected (I guess) by the same problem. Do you think I should just go ahead and perform a system restore?

Sorry I had a typo in the URL that I posted. It should be .ps3 instead of .html: http://localhost/cpursx.ps3

Set the IP address as static and check that Internet is enabled in XMB > Settings > Network

You must enable HEN every time that you start the console. Once it is enabled, the homebrews like multiMAN, IRISMAN or ManaGunZ should work. They have a File Manager that let you delete the files in /dev_hdd0/tmp.

To avoid the automatic load of webMAN MOD you should put an empty (0 bytes) boot_plugins.txt in the root of a pendrive FAT32

Thank you for your time, I really appreciate your effort. I got a little exasperated so I restored everything. So, I load up my fresh PS3 system, install the webMAN-MOD installer, I launch it and it's blank screen. Now it definitely shows it's not a webMAN-MOD issue I guess. Or at least it's not anymore. I also read this which might have been the problem all along.

I have 4.87 Ferrox running which should be noBD- and noBT-patched, so despite my BD reader being broken, it should work - I'm starting to think it's actually not patched. I performed a database rebuild and HDD restore. I guess I definitely went OT.

Hello all, I updated my PS3 Slim (no-CFW capable, HFW 4.87) with PS3HEN 3.0.2 to webMAN MOD 1.47.32 and that issue with freezing homebrew/games still persists. It can be triggered if the dynamic fan option is activated and nearly after every cold boot of the system! When I choose "Manual [30%]" (for example), it works all the time flawlessly. Only downpoint is the loud fan noise, but at least it prevents forced power off (20 sec. on power button or power cut) and rebuilding file system.

Is there any possibility to get it to work with dynamic fan speed? As far as I've read, I'm afraid not?

Thanks and a happy new year! :)

That is an issue in HEN. The fan controller requires to patch a protected area in LV2, which gets restored after each change in the fan speed.

The issue happens when a homebrew is started, the power consumption increases generating more heat. The fan controller tries to correct this, but the hypervisor detects the change in memory causing a panic in LV2 (console freeze).

Wow, that was a clear answer. I found countless suggestions in how to prevent black screen of deaths, but now I finally got a technical explanation. Thank you!
