pengwin-setup: Remove VSCode Install

Open shanoaice opened this issue 6 years ago • 5 comments

I found that after I installed VSCode in Pengwin and I attempted to run it, it gives me a message that I should install VSCode on the Windows side and remove it at the Linux side, then it asked me if I wanted to continue. After I answered Yes, nothing happeden. Also, I found that the VSCode WSL Remote Extension could run code from WSL enviroment without much configuration, so I thought there is no need to have the VSCode installation option in pengwin-setup.

This is the VSCode Market Link for the WSL remote extension.

With this plugin there is no need to run Code inside Pengwin

this might be worth doing, as we could just be causing confusion for some users. we can still keep the VSCode uninstall script in place for any users that have it currently installed, then either remove the current VSCode install script or put a dialog in its place letting the user know of this better alternative.

another option is adding this dialog box, but instead giving the user the choice of installing VSCode for Linux if they particularly need it for some reason over Windows VSCode.

thoughts?

Turning VS Code into an option to install Windows version (that opens links to Code website and WSL extension) or install inside WSL with a disclaimer might be viable middle-ground.

Sounds good. I think remain a notice is the best solution. @sirredbeard
