Mobile View contentLeftPanel

Open LlGC-dwj opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

Hi, we're developing a site that's going to be heavily using the left panel to navigate between different issues of a publication, this works really well on the desktop view but our testers have noted that there's no way of changing issue in the mobile view. Is this something we can switch on via the config at all?

Thanks, Dylan

Hi Dylan,

Not right now - but this is definitely something we need to add. We should discuss the best layout for this on the community call. I'm sure @mialondon and @demiankatz will have opinions on this :-)

on community call - distinction between:

  • thumbnails, which are better served by a horizontally scrolling thumbnail strip on mobile that you can swipe with your thumb at the bottom of the screen
  • structure (especially for multi part collections), which is better served (as described above) by making the full width content panel available in mobile view - but in a modal, mobile friendly way rather than as a collapsible panel that is still taking up room when closed.

Problem - if it takes up no room, how do you activate it? Needs a button, somewhere. Sara suggests top rather than footer. Menu (hamburger) icon much more appropriate for call-to-action-to-reveal-nav.

Also needs to be closable, and scrollable.

Hamburger considered not evil if it means "I will show you some navigation" rather than "I could contain anything that we couldn't figure out where to put in mobile view"

Bump. We are having similar issues for mobile users when trying to view Multi-Volume Works. There's no way for them to browse other volumes in mobile/responsive view. I see this is from 2017. Is this still on your roadmap? Any thoughts on an ETA?

All issues will be triaged for further investigation or closure by the 28 September 2023. If your issue is still relevant and would like for it be investigated further please comment by 14 September 2023.

If it's not fixed, it would still be important.
