Error checking for update: "org.sparkle-project.Downloader" differs from previously opened versions.
Hi Brent — love NNW, thanks for all your hard work.
I decided to start using the Mac version after years of running the iOS app. After running through the settings, I hit "Check for Updates" and was presented with the following error.
Not sure if this is an issue with Sparkle or just how NNW makes use of it, but I figured I'd let you know just in case.
macOS 14.1.2, NNW 6.1.4 (6120)
Is there an answer to this? I'm getting the same error. Think mine might be related to AppZapper.
@ivanreese Are you using AppZapper? I wonder if there’s an issue there.
No, I don't use AppZapper.
I do use AppDelete (by the late Reggie Ashworth), which is similar. When you launch it, you can drag an .app bundle onto the window and it'll find all the prefs, plists, stuff in Application Support, etc, and help you delete it all. You can also have it run in the background to monitor for .app bundles moved to the Trash. But I don't have that enabled, and I don't see it (or anything that seems related to it) in Activity Monitor. And to the best of my knowledge, I've never used it to remove a NNW install.
So it's remotely possible this is related. Stranger things have happened. But it strikes me as unlikely.

edit: Okay, I didn't realize NetNewsWire is using a very old version of Sparkle that didn't have the XPC Services bundled in the framework. On a more updated version of Sparkle (>= 2.0), NetNewsWire should only use the installer XPC Service and then this will not be an issue. This app does not need to use the downloader or the other services.
NetNewsWire could even probably fix this issue today without upgrading Sparkle by just removing the downloader xpc service it bundles, since it never needed it and already has com.apple.security.network.client entitled on its main binary.
Saw this now after opening NNW, couple days post upgrading to Sequoia Dev Preview. Same as OP, got this after choosing to check for updates prompt. Didn't get this before the upgrade and IDK if it's related. I'm on NNW 6.1.4 (6120).
