Very slow downloads of modules where need to download the Az modules from the PowerShell Gallery

Prerequisites

• [x] Write a descriptive title.
• [x] Make sure you are able to repro it on the latest version
• [x] Search the existing issues.

Steps to reproduce

• Running the AzurePowerShell@5 task in Azure DevOps using a Azure PowerShell version that IS NOT installed on the agents.

Expected behavior

Download takes 2-5 minutes

Actual behavior

Download taking upwards of 50 minutes

I am experiencing the same issue, essentially blocking our deployments to production - see my related issue here - #318

Same here, having serious problems downloading and installing Az modules on MS hosted build agents, self-hosted build agents, can also reproduce the issue on my own workstation

We also experience the same issue! Somehow our tasks took 1-2minutes yesterday and now take up to 40minutes to complete 🐌 Also our docker image builds are affected, when just doing a installation of the Az module.

Thanks for reporting we have a mitigation in place as of roughly 6 hours ago.

It seems in the space of a week, this has started happening again for us. Whilst it is not taking AS long as it was, sometimes we are now getting failures. Please can this be addressed as soon as possible.

We are also seeing a big slow down, again effecting our deployments. Are there plans in place to make this service perform reliably?

Yes, there is a deployment underway, but it hasn't made it to production yet due to some other issues. We'll try to get this out before this time next week, since this seems to get worse around this time each week. I'll report back at the end of the week with updates.

Hi @alerickson - unfortunately we have hit the same problem again, it's taking an age to download modules

Az module is taking forever to install and in some cases causing our pipelines to expire.

This should be mitigated now, we're working on a long-term solution for this issue and pre-emptive mitigation steps. Please continue to comment when this issue occurs. Thank you!
