BRING BACK THE 2D OPTICS

KoffeinFlummi avatar Jul 01 '14 21:07 KoffeinFlummi

Whos gonna make the graphics though? Also, since some people prefer 3D, maybe we should add the 2D variants as extra classes?

commy2 avatar Jul 02 '14 00:07 commy2

Why not work together with TMR and integrate their 2D optics? That way no new graphics have to be made...

TheConen avatar Jul 02 '14 13:07 TheConen

Yes, but please as an option, either dedicated PBO or userconfig option in AGM menu

Cephel avatar Jul 03 '14 09:07 Cephel

I think a separate PBO is better. Also, why dont people like the 3d optics?

ghost avatar Aug 19 '14 00:08 ghost

  • They sway independently of your face
  • They reflect sunlight (that came through your head?!)
  • They're unnecessarily small

KoffeinFlummi avatar Aug 19 '14 01:08 KoffeinFlummi

2D works better with TrackIR. You can move your head wherever you want and your aim remains accurate.

Well, I for one would hate them. While the vanilla 3D scopes may not be perfect but 2D scopes are worse and totally unrealistic sice they are limitting your FOV too much

Since there was a suggestion to ask Bad Benson for these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIbsRbp1B3o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjM8JDZvqBM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZe5Bx4iemU

,I would suggest either asking him or to take the vanilla scopes.

Heavygunner96

Those are what we consider 2D optics.

commy2 avatar Dec 06 '14 15:12 commy2

Ok I thought about the A2 scopes, cause the title is bring BACK the 2D scopes. While Bad besnons are 2D too, they are new and don't cut away the FOV.^^

NicSchni avatar Dec 06 '14 17:12 NicSchni

They were in the early A3 alpha.

commy2 avatar Dec 06 '14 18:12 commy2

I can make you some graphics for 2D optics if you guys want.

BaerMitUmlaut avatar Dec 07 '14 12:12 BaerMitUmlaut

That would be awesome!

commy2 avatar Dec 07 '14 12:12 commy2

I started with the RCO this evening. Looking ok so far? I'm trying to make a close copy to the original reticle, but I could also make it red so it would be more visible at night or add a rangefinder etc. like TMR did.

BaerMitUmlaut avatar Dec 07 '14 23:12 BaerMitUmlaut

RCO done (?), probably needs some sort of mount but that's easy to add and wasn't really visible in the comparison shot I took.

:+1:

Also, you can make this optional without another PBO. Instead of replacing all vanilla scopes, you can just add 2D optics to the existing 3D ones.

NicSchni avatar Dec 08 '14 22:12 NicSchni

ARCO (no reticle yet, will add later).

BaerMitUmlaut avatar Dec 10 '14 17:12 BaerMitUmlaut

And the MRCO. I left out the detail on the left adjustment wheel for now but that can be added if so desired.

Very nice, love it

Just came across this:

image

It from VBS, the military training counterpart of the Arma series. The traslucent optics were added under US SOCOM funding to simulate the fact that you shoot through reflex and holo scopes with both eyes open, so they don't obscure your vision at all.

Just in case we ever produce 2d version of those, we may want to do them like this.

nicolasbadano avatar Dec 24 '14 01:12 nicolasbadano

I get the idea, but it looks awful.

commy2 avatar Dec 24 '14 10:12 commy2

Agreed with commy, it's perfect for a full simulator like VBS, but for a game simulation like Arma it's awful and doesn't really add much.

jonpas avatar Dec 24 '14 10:12 jonpas

Agreed with @commy2, proper peripheral vision ( ie. no zoomed in outside scopes ) has a purpose, especially in TvT, even if you may not like that gamemode. Translucent gun models / overlays on the other hand add basically nothing and look pretty weird.

:+1:

How's FPS with this?

jonpas avatar Jan 03 '15 22:01 jonpas

Looks great, we either need this or 2d optics if there is no way to fix the issues with Arma's 3d optics. I doubt we'll lose too many frames with pip optics. I'm really excited to see how this pans out.

Amazing KoffeinFlummi, good work.

If you look real sight pictures, you can see the sight is blurred at this low distance from the eyes and with this focused on the marks.

This happens not only with a photograph, also with the real eye. So I think the textures which you create, should be de-focused (blurred), this helps the immersion and makes the job easier, allowing flat textures, without a complex texturing (roughness of material, color ...)

This is only a example for ilustrate my opinion. http://i.imgur.com/OBUkyKx.png
