Volume mixer does not have a clickable way to switch output devices

When the "Volume mixer" section is visible, there is no clickable way to switch output devices. If there was, it would allow us to hide the original sound icon completely and save some space!

I am pretty sure what you mean is something that I was originally confused about at first as well. When you've selected the device you want to switch to, (for example, in your image, when you have the Headphones selected from whatever it was before), then click in that little icon to the right (The spoke wheels) and then select "change the default device". You won't see anything there unless you have actually switched it from something else in the menu first, but that might be what you are talking about.
