Posts not loading after changing 2fA app

Open l0drex opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

I changed the app I use for 2fA. After that, nothing loaded when I used this app. I expected to see some sort of message popup that I need to relogin at least.

I've fixed this now by logging out of my account and logging in again.

Thanks for letting us (the community) know. But this isn't a bug. It would be unnecessary to implement this.

Please close this issue.

Thanks

Sorry, but I completely disagree. In my opinion, it would be way more user-friendly if there was a popup that notifies you that the authentication failed and that you need to log in again. Seeing only a blank page where nothing loads doesn't tell you anything, and fixing that (as a user) might take some time.

You aren't gonna change your 2fa codes every month/week/year. And if you change them, you're gonna know it and it's taking way longer to change your 2fa code/app than logging into Infinity for Reddit

There are people (like me) who use Reddit mainly on the desktop. There were a few weeks between changing the 2fa and using Infinity afterwards. At that point, logging out and in again was just a lucky guess and I remembered changing the 2fa.

Would it be that much work to implement this hint / prompt?

I need to check the error message first.

I acknowledge that there hasn't been activity in this open issue for over a year, but I thought I'd comment a thank you and say it would've taken me a much longer time to figure out I had to re-log in to fix this exact issue I was having. Anyways, here's my experience at least.

In my case, I initially used google to log into reddit so my account didn't have a password tied to it. I assume I couldn't log into the app since the form has a password field. I disconnect from google, then give an account password to tie to my reddit account. I use this to log into the app without 2fa enabled to see if I'm able to connect before moving any further, which it did. After I logged in, I went through reddit's account settings to see if there's anything else I'd like to change, and that's when I enabled 2fa. I was doing all this on the desktop, and not the app. I didn't bother to try to browse through reddit on the app after setting 2fa because I was already on reddit on my desktop. My incompetency allowed enough time to pass without giving a thought that 2fa could've been the reason that nothing was loading in the app, so it took me a while wondering why I was getting a "error loading post". That's when I came across this github issue that gave me the direction I needed to solve the error.

Again thank you for the github issue, and thank you for reading. Thank you for this awesome app too because it works amazing.
