"Please sign-in to your Gmail account" when I am

Open AdmiralAnimE opened this issue 10 years ago • 13 comments

So yeah, very often the addon just opens Gmail and tells me to sign in, but I am always in. Any fix? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? But all I've done is to disable desktop notifications and change the timings. By the way, if I want to translate, can I just copy src/_locales/en/messages.json, edit it and upload it here?

edit: I'm not sure yet, but this may be happening when I receive spam.

Do not click on the toolbar button when the color is blue, blue means the notifier cannot access your Gmail account. Wait until the icon is eather gray or red.

I am not clicking! It opens gmail by itself, without me doing anthing. The icon is gray.

I have no idea how the extension does this! What is your browser? Any steps to regenerate the bug?

I use Firefox 64 bit, on 64 bit Windows 7. I don't know how you can reproduce it, I just installed the addon. I still think it may be connected to me receiving spam, but it doesn't do it every time.

do you still experiencing this bug? anything new that helps me to fix this?

It's stopped for now, I will tell you if it does it again.

Btw, I moved to FF developer edition and I tested the startup time with and without addons. The browser opens, and then it takes some time to respond and show all my addons and bookmarks in the panels at the top. This addon seems to slow down that by ~2 seconds, more than any other. Maybe it's not much, but when you have 15+ addons, it can become like 6 seconds total.

How can I monitor it or send you any information?

There are two tools: about:performance and about:memory. Try the extension on a clean profile first and see if you can reproduce the 2 second delay. Maybe extensions can affect each other as well.

about:performance is available only on nigthly, so I isntalled it and synced my data. It performs the same (slow start). In the performance tab I usually see Stylish on top (worst performance), after that is this addon, HTTPS-Everywhere, Reddit Enhancement Suite, uBlock Origin.

I made a new profile (I'm using Profilist) and installed the addon. There is a noticeable delay on start, but not as big as with my profile and other addons. I restarted several times with different addons (on my profile), my conclusion is that Gmail Notifier and Reddit Enhancement Suite slow down the start time significantly, like 1-2 seconds each. I tried to install only Gmail notifier and Reddit suite on the new profile, when I enable both it's slower.

List of everything I have enabled: Classic theme restorer Flagfox Forecastfox (fix version) Gmail notifier (restartless) Google search link fix HTTPS everywhere Menu icons plus Profilist Stylish Stylish sync Ublock origin Youtube plus

I can't see any big memory usage in about:memory. I'm attaching the report. memory-report.json.gz

In about:performance, I see this:

Full name: jid0-GjwrPchS3Ugt7xydvqVK4DQk8Ls@jetpack. Impact on framerate: 4/10. CPU usage: 3%. System usage: 1%. Blocking process calls: 0%. Measure start: 589 seconds ago. Processes: 2892 (parent), 6392 (child)

At this point I am not sure how we can improve the startup time. Can you try to investigate to see whether the CPU usage is due to fetching accounts or the UI of the panel is the issue. As you may know, Firefox loads all UI elements at startup, though we can probably delay this until the first request.

In the options page, delay the first check to something like a minute or so and see if the startup response gets better or not

I don't think the startup check matters. I changed it to 120 seconds, but it still starts slow.

This is when I manually check and I'm not logged in. Impact on framerate: 6/10. CPU usage: 9%.

This is when I manually check and I'm logged in. Impact on framerate: 5/10. CPU usage: 7%.

This is a few moments after firefox starts. Impact on framerate: 3/10 - 4/10 CPU usage: 3% (sometimes up to 16%)

This is when I open the settings of the addon. Impact on framerate: 9/10 (2 alerts). CPU usage: 25% - 42% Blocking process calls: 8%.

I see, how about the latest beta version https://github.com/inbasic/ignotifier/blob/beta/builds/packed/firefox.xpi?raw=true

Download the XPI and drop it into your Firefox. In this version GN does not populate the panel at all until either a new unread email is detected (still waits 30 second to make sure Firefox initialization is over) or on user request).

inbasic avatar Feb 27 '16 13:02 inbasic

I tried it but I don't see any difference. Compared to my profile with no active addons, when gmail notifier is active it's 1-2 seconds slower to load the interface and respond.

I am not sure what else can be tweaked to improve the startup responsiveness. Lets keep this open until something new comes up.
