Expand installation options

Wanted:

  • Windows installer
  • Homebrew tap
  • ~~OSX App Store distribution (requires proper signing - which should also stop the terrible security annoyances on OSX)~~
  • Debian package

Maybe:

  • Windows 8 app store?

Our hope is that converting to a JavaFX-packaged application will help us solve many/all of these

Note that we cannot ship ImageJ on the app store

Specifically: "2.16 - Apps that download or install additional code or resources to add functionality or change their primary purpose will be rejected"

I think we could ship ImageJ2 onto the Mac App Store despite 2.16, since we don't change its "primary purpose". But I don't really want to pay the Apple tax.

Another obstacle to the Mac App Store is its legal incompatibility with GPL software. So we couldn't ship Fiji there for sure. But that might be moot if/when the preferred way of obtaining Fiji is to install ImageJ2 and then enable the Fiji update site.

Anyway, the Homebrew tap is definitely doable and a good way for semi-technical folks to get ImageJ2/Fiji on the Mac.
