Friend and I have completely separate logged in userlists from each other

We can't see each other as online, we can't invite each other to memos, and can even be on the same handle as each other. Our userlist (and memolist) are both completely different from each others'.

Are there different servers? How can we make sure we're on the same server? Kinda hard to RP if we can't even see each other.
