TV compatibility

Open mattwilko123 opened this issue 3 years ago • 8 comments

Hi there! Thanks again for creating this.

I am very new to homebridge and this plugin. Does this plugin work and enable my TV's to be seen by HomeKit? At the moment I can't see them but not sure if I'm doing something wrong?

If TV's aren't compatible yet, can you recommend a solution?

Thanks,

Matt

Oh, there are so many ways that iOS can go wrong with TVs. different feature sets, different codecs, DRM, certification, and content providers.

The solution is to buy Apple TV product

The plugin doesn’t support TVs at the moment.

Biggest problem with TVs...

Usually, the connection is via a Set Top Box like Roku. But then you have to hope the user understands their TV can't be turned on and off - by the Roku - unless the TV is using HDMI - it's plugged into the right port - the TV has ARC/CEC turned on - the TV even supports the capability.

I just Homekitted all my Rokus recently, to find the majority of my TVs (they are rather old) don't support ARC/CEC - so it does me no good.

Would like to see a feature to control tv via apple tv remote app. I use my shield with Homebridge Adb without a problem. Given smartthings app has a remote function, maybe something similar can be achieved?

Can this plug in at least power on and off a Samsung smart tv via Siri?

Wanted to have TV support as well so I developed a separate plugin for this: https://github.com/o-lukas/homebridge-smartthings-tv

@iklein99 I hope it's ok to "promote" this here, but I read in another thread you don't plan to implement TVs in this plugin.

No problem. If you wanted to fork my repo and add it to my plugin and send me a pull request, I'd be happy to review it. Might be difficult to do.
