@daenny, thank you for contributing this, I am eagerly awaiting its merge. Maybe the pylint warning needs to be looked into as well?
NetworkManager also provides information if the current connection is metered (see https://people.freedesktop.org/~lkundrak/nm-docs/nm-dbus-types.html#NMMetered) so IMO this feature may be useful on Linux, too
