Regression: meeting/materials -> ... Propose Slides

Open toerless opened this issue 2 years ago • 11 comments

What happened?

Originally, it was possible to navigate from the current IETF meeting page datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/materials to the individual groups meeting material page (https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/(acronym)/session/) and from there one could click "Propose Slides).

Now after some redesign that path is gone. The only path from datatracker to "propose slides" (Thank Lars) seems to be: DT -> WG Page -> Meetings -> <current-Materials>

Which is somewhat more difficult to remember

So i would appreciate if meeting/materials would again have a hotlink to individual groups meetings material page.

I observe that such a link is offered when you are chair for your own group. ("Edit Materials"). Maybe just make that colum carry an icon for every group/line

What browser(s) are you seeing the problem on?

Not Applicable

@toerless - can you confirm that you were logged in? The propose slides button only shows if you cannot directly upload slides to a session yourself (because you are a chair, part of the secretariat, etc.) and you are logged in. See https://github.com/ietf-tools/datatracker/blob/main/ietf/templates/meeting/session_details_panel.html#L121

My manual tests show that this button is appearing as intended.

It would be great if the button could always be there. As a Delegate for a WG, I'd still like my co-chairs to hear about me posting the slides.

That's a different requirement - if you used Propose Slides as a delegate, your chairs would have to approve them before they were posted. Are you wanting your upload to block on their approval, or are you just wanting to make sure they get notified that you did something?

If the later, we'll convert this ticket to "Send notification to chairs when delegate uploads slides" and talk to all the chairs about how they would want that to work.

@mcr - ping?

I want to make sure that they are notified when slides are uploaded.

do you also want to be notified when a co-chair uploads slides?

What Michael is asking for should be handled under a different ticket - the main issue this ticket is pointing to is that the workflow for proposing slides is now arcane and there needs to be a much more obvious path for how to do that.

[[Significantly edited; sincere apologies for the snarky tone in the original]]

It should be a goal for a WG chair during IETF meeting week to be able to easily tell someone how to upload slides. That person might have the agenda page open. Currently, the fastest way is to say click on the WG abbreviation (not the full name) to get to the WG page, then click on "Meetings", look for "IETF 114", click on "Materials", then click on "Propose slides".

A much more direct way would be click on the icon with the four outward-facing arrows, scroll to the bottom, and click on "Propose slides".

Assigning to myself, at least for adding more readily accessible upload/propose slides buttons and access to the session materials page.

We should always get notifications. I'm not sure it should block, but maybe sometimes it should.
