TypeError: Failed to fetch when you update the source file

Open dhruvdhody opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

It is common to find errors in the source when using the tool, which requires one to go fix them and update the source file. But after the file is updated and you click on any of the buttons, it throws the error - TypeError: Failed to fetch!

Even choosing the file again or a refresh doesn't fix it!

I need to open the https://author-tools.ietf.org/ in a new tab to make it work!

Browser: Chrome

Thanks for the bug report.

Different browsers (and on different operating systems) behaves differently when an already selected file is changed on the file system. For example "Author Tools" works fine on Firefox on macOS when file is re-selected, but doesn't work without re-selecting.

I can reproduce your error on Chrome under macOS.

This might be a tricky issue to fix. 🤔

Thanks!

FWIW I did not face this issue on rfcdiff, idnits, xml2rfc etc in the past!

I used to have this issue all the time with Firefox on Windows and the old UIs, and suddenly it vanished. I could never trace the reason.

It's REALLY ugly for me (Firefox on MacOs). It will sometimes display the file name, but it doesn't think it's there (no file).

Yes, I now see this behaviour routinely, exactly as I saw a few years ago at https://xml2rfc.tools.ietf.org/experimental.html All I have to do is re-select the input file.
