FR: Ability to select text with the mouse

Open nickchomey opened this issue 3 weeks ago • 2 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I believe that prior to the recent changes to allow for mouse usage, we could select text with the mouse to copy. But now I'm unable to do so.

Describe the solution you'd like

the challenges for mouse related features is going up ⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️

I don't think they can coexist. When there's no mouse support then terminal allows you to select text, but when there's mouse support it simply forwards those events to the underlying application.

Terminals like iterm2 prompt users to temporarily disable mouse reporting to select text. This is more of a terminal feature than a jjui one. While technically possible with some effort, it’s beyond the project’s scope and I’m not interested in implementing it.

@nickchomey Just found out now; dragging while shift pressed still selects text (at least in Ghostty).

So it does! Both in ghostty and vs code terminal. Very cool. Feel free to close this if you like. Perhaps add a note somewhere?

(at least in Ghostty).

@idursun @nickchomey and in wezterm too!

I am closing this as in general holding shift down does the trick (e.g. cmd+click while holding shift down opens links etc)
