To any reading, I have in the meantime released smooth-scrollbar-deluxe, which has this PR baked into it.

Yes @idiotWu @sadeghbarati This project is still one of the best smooth scroll libraries out there, but it could benefit from significant optimization, cleanup, and updates. Please consider maintaining it or handing it over to the community.
