Delay exit doesn't work

Hi Linux mint 20.1 ./nerd-dictation begin --timeout 3

Doesn't exit at all after 3 seconds

For me the timeout seems to work okay with a value less than or equal to 5; more than that and it does not exit. Maybe there is some noise that causes the exit delay to restart? But I tried muting my mic and it still goes on forever (well, 30+ seconds) with --timeout 6, with no output. Ubuntu 23.04
