Add a new Cardinal model of thermal striping modeling in MSRE piping system
Model Description
This demonstration model aims to showcase Cardinal's capability in capturing thermal striping phenomenon in the MSRE piping system. A simple T-junction geometry is selected, featuring two inlets and one outlet. The inflow temperatures at the two inlets differ, leading to strong thermal mixing inside the pipe, which induces thermal stresses on the pipe walls. The nekRS code is employed for the conjugate heat transfer simulations, and the resulting temperature field in the pipe walls is passed to the MOOSE Solid Mechanics Module for thermal stress analysis.
Project description
This study was funded by DOE NEAMS program.
Impact
This serves as a valuable reference model for anyone interested in using Cardinal to perform multiphysics simulations involving thermal-hydraulics and structural mechanics.
