Model Description

The Kilopower Reactor Using Stirling Technology (KRUSTY) is a test reactor designed for space exploration missions. Its multiphysics model was created using technical insights published in open literature. These models were crafted to simulate KRUSTY's behavior under cold or warm critical conditions. This involved employing various tools such as Griffin for neutronics, the MOOSE Reactor module for unstructured mesh modeling, BISON for thermos-mechanical analysis and heat transfer, and the MOOSE MultiApp system for integrating multiple physics aspects.

Project description

This project was developed under NEAMS Micro-Reactor Application Drivers Work Package.

Impact

The KRUSTY Multiphysics Model stands as an exemplary demonstration of high-fidelity multiphysics modeling for advanced microreactor designs intended for space exploration missions.
