sorry, but eggos is only tested on qemu. You may try using eggos.iso as cdrom on vmware.

It seems you are using a higher version `afero` than eggos

The toolchain is installed according to the `Dependencies` chapter in the README.

eggos use grub as the bootloader, so you should see the grub ui after booting, if not, may something wrong with grub.

Also setting a higher timeout in `boot/grub.cfg` may help you to stay in grub ui
