Enable ESCAPE key to close the right panel currently opened without the red cross button
Hi, This is a feature request concerning the frontend. The escape key could be useful to close details panel (for task, story, release, ...) and other panels at the right (like the panels to create a task, a story, a release, a sprint, ...).
... instead of all the time click on the little red cross button:
That would be time-saving.
Have a nice year !

Hi Samuel,
Thanks, have a nice year as well!
Thank you for your suggestion. There definitely should be a keyboard shortcut for that!
However, we have to make a few experiments in order to know whether just the escape key would be the right one. We have mixed feelings about it because sometimes users enter escape by mistake, and the result can be annoying:
- you loose the current selection and it may be a pain to find it again among the many items that can be displayed on the screen (however one can use the browser "Back" button)
- the layout changes as there is suddenly more room on the screen for the main view, which can be upsetting
Hi Nicolas,
Personnally, I think that the esc
key is far of the left hand and is unlikely to be clicked by mistake, but I have no experience at choosing keyboard shortcuts. If needed, here are my thoughts for other possibilities:
- To avoid mistake with
esc
only, an other key is needed. First observation:Ctrl + esc
andAlt + esc
are already used by Windows (for Mac and Linux no idea). (But maybe redefine a "native" shortcuts of the OS or the browser is possible ?). So if I'm not wrong, there is onlyShift + esc
left. - If you only use the left hand (not both hands) to type
Shift + esc
, the position is not very convenient. Maybe double touch onesc
is the best possibility (convenient for the hand, no mistake).
I hope it will bring new ideas to the discussion.
Have a nice week...
Hello, Is there any news/reflections on this issue ? Any new opinions or ideas about the choose of this keyboard shortcut ? Thanks.
