Error when copying characters

Open sophiedkk opened this issue 2 years ago • 9 comments

Thank you so much for this extension, it has been incredibly useful to me!

When I try to copy a character from the "Characters" application it fails to copy the character to the clipboard and instead the shell seems to freeze. If you then press the search-light shortcut again you will be able to exit and the system becomes responsive again. To me it seems like the extension does not properly close after copying a character.

I checked this recently on Gnome 43 (Debian), Gnome 45 (Arch), Gnome 46 (Fedora 40beta). And I can't reproduce. Could you confirm if this bug still exists and the system you have on. Thanks.

It could be on my end. I'm on Fedora 40 beta. This is what happens: https://github.com/icedman/search-light/assets/33315062/e6d93c8c-5906-4ecd-b603-112e879447c9

Could you confirm that you can copy character from the overview search.. (without using Search Light). On my Fedora 40 install, there would be a message "character copied successfully". Also check the log for errors. See "Bug Reporting" section on readme. This would help me, as I cannot recreate that bug.

I muted the notifications and when I enable them the notification does pop up, but I still have to press escape to be able to paste the character. The same thing happens on my other computer which is on Fedora 39. Though it might still be at my end because they've been configured pretty much the same... Can you point me towards the bug reporting section? I couldn't find it.

Fedora 40 beta GNOME 46.0 Search light 22

I also tried it on an Ubuntu VM and got the same behaviour. Same when I disabled all extensions and my custom accelerator. 😅

Could you check the logs - run this on the terminal while using Search Light:

journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell -f -o cat

Fedora 40 beta GNOME 46.0 Search light 22

I have the same setup. With no other else installed though. And with the packages all updated.
